How to Exercise When You Don’t Feel Like It
We all know that keeping a regular exercise routine will
help us achieve our weight goals but it’s easier said than
done. Some days you feel full of energy and ready to hit
the gym hard while other days you feel like doing nothing.
If you want to lose weight you must take the steps outlined
below to keep you from being lazy even for just one day.
1.) Find your motivation
Ask yourself what motivated you to exercise in the first
place. Was it an innocent fat joke from a colleague or
family member? Was it the disgusting love handles protuding
from your jeans?
Was it the fact that you haven’t been able to wear your
favorite outfit in months. Finding the motivation to
exercise will get you off your butt when you don’t feel
like exercising.
2.) Work out at the same time every day
Train yourself to always work out at the same time every
day so that it becomes second nature to you. If you fit
your workout into a regular daily routine, it will be
easier for you to follow that routine.
3.) Be flexible
Be flexible when you absolutely cannot make it to the gym.
There are lots of exercises that you can perform at home.
Get yourself an exercise ball, jump ropes, elastic bands,
some small weights and you’ve got a small fitness gym.
Let’s face it, going to the gym can take out a big chunk of
your day but you don’t have to skip your exercise because
you can’t go. Just work out at home using your body weight
and light exercise equipment like I listed.
4.) Work out with someone
Making yourself accountable to someone else is one of the
best ways to keep a consistent routine. You can work out
with your significant other or a friend.
If that’s not convenient you can meet people who have
similar goals at your gym or by searching the online social
network sites such at meetup.com
5.) Set small achievable and concrete goals
Each day keep a workout log of what you do so that you can
measure your progress and set up goals to meet. When you
can see yourself achieving something, you’re more likely to
keep at it.
It’s not enough to weight yourself every once in a while.
You have to write down how long you worked out, what
exercises you performed and how much you’ve improved. Then
you know how close you are to your goal. It will only
motivate you knowing that you are in fact reaching your
goals and this will accelerate your results.
6.) Make it fun
Exercise doesn’t have to be limited to ab machines or
treadmills. If you play a sport, not only is it a great
workout but you also have fun so you don’t feel like it’s
exercise.
Many of us (including me) used to be in the best shapes of
our lives when we played sports in school. A quick game of
basketball and do wonders for your love handles.
If you’ve not exercised for a long time and start an exercise
program, you’re going to get tired really quickly and lose
your motivation to continue. By playing a sport, you can
get your body used to physical activity. Once you get
past that initial hurdle, momentum will begin to build and
you’ll find that exercise will be less strenuous.
7.) Just do it
It’s not just Nike’s slogan. The longer you think about
doing something that you don’t like doing, the less likely
you’ll do it. If you just don’t think about it and do it,
you’ll fight that lazy urge to stay home on gym days. Don’t
allow your mind to talk you out of it.
If you follow the steps outlined above to keep yourself on
a consistent workout routine, you’ll in a much better
position to achieve your fitness goals.
